My friends and I purchased wii speaks to use for the game Monster Hunter Tri when that game came out. We had high hopes that these mics would serve its purpose based on the positive reviews here. However, I don't know if this is just specific to MH3, the sound quality is just horrendous. We can make out what each other is trying to say about 30% of the time, otherwise it's mostly muffled voices as if someone was speaking through a broken drive-through speaker. You have to literally stand 3 feet in front of it to get coherent audible voice. Anything further usually causes sound distortions. So we end up having to shout and repeat ourselves constantly while playing the game; ideally bad if you live in an apartment or game late in the night...
Also these tend to pick up very sharp feedback noise when the other player's wiispeak is picking up game noise and you zone into a loading screen. So in summary, these are horrible for MH3 but there seems to really be no alternative.
